What Is Your Heart’s Desire

Posted on 25th June 2008 by jarcant in Business Note

I used to believe in scarcity. All I wanted to do was to have freedom for writing and expressing my soul, find the way to support my dream and make my dream come true.

Life is not all about making money but it does make life more comfortable.

What is Your Heart’s Desire?

Would you like to stay at home and paint?

Would you like to take long walks in the nature and then go swimming in the clear lake?

Would you like to go fly-fishing?

Would you like to go on the safari?

Would you like to pamper yourself in the spa?

I was raised up in the religious family with twelve siblings
and learned to believe in scarcity. I wanted to find abundance
which is not only material wealth
but also abundance in all area of life.

It is creativity.

It is sexual fulfilment.

It is spirituality.

It is health.

It is intimacy.

It is healthy relationship.

It is connection with the nature.

It is not only freedom from the life style which is not satisfying - work, commuting to work, addictions,

difficulties in the relationships - but also freedom for doing something that you always dreamed of.

I travelled all around the world and lived in twelve different countries
And was taught by several appreciated guru’s but finally found a half a guru inside of myself.

She knew that all she wanted to do was to have freedom for writing and expressing her soul.

I needed to find the way to support my dream and commit myself to change the outer circumstances in my life so

that they would help me to make my dream come true.

I moved from the city apartment to the countryside close to the nature, forest and a big lake. I go walking every

other day and do stretching and Pilates every other day. I eat healthy food but also indulge myself every now and

then with chocolate and glass of wine. I allowed myself finally to have a loving husband and stopped running away

from all the good things in life.

WONDER AND START FOLLOWING YOUR INNER GUIDANCE

Do you want to live like everything is a wonder or nothing is a wonder to you? Do you want to stay living

familiar, numbing and safe life, which is similar with everyone else’s life or do you want to walk on your own

path, full of miracles?

As children we all were fully alive and present. We were curious and wondered our surroundings, we found

constantly something new also in the familiar things, something that make us enthusiastic and made our imagination

fly. I lost our sense of time, when we plundged to count the points at the back of the ladybird or made conecows

or swam happily on the swimming ring made from tractor’s inner tube. Whn we grew up we rejected new experiences,

landscapes and insights. We isolated ourselves into our small world and asked where did we lose our playfulness

and imagination. We miss them, because without them we do not feel fully alive. We need to be children and adults

at the same time and move towards our dreams regardless of our fear. We do not feel alive unless we dare to search

and experiment our uniqueness despite of the fact that our uniqueness makes us sometimes also lonely.

Deep inside we all remember what is the flowing life and passion of existence like, because we were all born to

this world fully alive, ecstatic beings. Our soul, body and mind were all one. We were perfectly beautiful beings,

and did not question our beauty. But then already in our early years our mind, body and soul were torn apart, the

suffering caused by separation started. We lost the connection between our mind, soul and body, and lost the

connection with our inner being. Because that connection is the foundation of our happiness, we suffer if we are

missing it.
The separation of our body, mind and soul is the origin of all suffering, our deep wound. All of them are meant

for one body, oneness, divine being that from its own perfect oneness reaches towards the oneness of the

university, and becomes one with it. This oneness we miss. We search for it everywhere outside of us without

knowing, what we search for. Searching ourside of us is futile, because oneness is already within us. We only need

to see and understand that in order to let go of the illusion of separation.

Our mind is only storage of the learned opinions and beliefs, which our body moves around. When body and mind do

not communicate with each other, our body functions only as a vehicle for our intelligence. It has been taken away

its original purpose to give us pleasure and intepretate our feelings. Then life juice compresses our a drop by

drop and body gets pale and dry, until there is only a pile of bones and flesh left, body where nothing moves, no

emotions, thoughts or spirit.

Without a connection with our soul we live dry and unnourished life. Soul is a channel for love to come to our

life, so without sonnection with our soul we do not experience live and have feeling of the deeper meaning of

life. We miss the taste of life: we miss emotions and their nuances; we miss ecstasy and joy of existence. We live

numb and melancolic, our life is flat and nothing touches us. Nothing gets us to ecstasy and nothing makes us cry

from pain. Our being is stagnant, musty and heavy. With the oneness of all our parts we live in the hell on the

earth, anxious and sad. We have bottomless hunger and enourmous longing, which cannot be satiesfied by the biggest

amounts of food, alcohol, sex or drugs. When we are split on ourselves, we cannot experience oneness with the

universe. Then we miss both its wisdom and limitless resources.

It is possible to bring our soul and body back to life, because we already have all the knowledge needed for that.

We have bottomless wosdom, although it might not feel like that. By quieting down and listening to our delicate

inner whispering, we can get answers for all our questions. We get guidance, if we promise to follow the

instructions we receive. If we do not listen to delicate whispering of our inner being, it may start screaming.

Our subconscious may create a situation into our life, where we are forced to stop listening and cahnging the

direction of our life or we may lose our chance to happy life. Though we lost everything tangible - as I did -, we

get much more instead, when we find ourselves. When we win our resistance and reject the misleading outside

information, we get to dig into our inner being, and we will always have a refreshing, healing spring, unstoppable

babbling of cleaning water. There we can go to rest whenever we like to.
Our soul is more valuable than all the treasures of the world all together. It is delicate and untouched, pure and

deep part of our being. In the roots of the inner rainbow of emotions there is unmeasurably valuable treasure: our

deepest being, we ourselves. It is our connection with the infinite wisdom of the universe and all the unvisible.

It does not cling onto thoughts, objects or people but lives purely from joy and beauty. Its lifeforce is love and

its fuel is emotions, from which it can create limitlessly whatever we can imagine. Our body is a doorway to the

secret garden of our being. If we submit our body to be only a vehicle of our brains, we close the door to our

secret garden and prevent us from finding a valuable treasure.

We have to find the key to the door of our secret garden, and we may find it while weeding the grounds of our

heart. We have to have courage to make our hands dirty and start digging the ground of our heart, because before

it has been plowed and weeded, new seeds cannot be planted. We need to get rid of all “Yes, but…” and “If we are

realistic…” and “Let’s be reasonable….” - weeds frm preventing our dream to grow. After that we need to take

care of the sprouting seeds and growing plants and provide tehm with sufficient light and nourishment.

All the doctor’s diagnoses lead us further away from the truth that our pain is longing for our true being. The

answer has existed all the time in our heart and it is so simple that it has been difficult to believe. Our inner

voice leads us away from fear and anxiety. It guides us and tells us to let go off our desperate clinging to the

past. Gradually we understand the nature of the reality: constant change.

Every one of us has an opportunity to express our divine beauty in our daily life, because we are spiritual,

divine beings, who are trying to learn to live in the human world. We are not fallen, sinful people trying to be

spiritual. It is a big sin to deny our divine origin and our uniqueness; it is as if we refused to recive life the

universe gave us. The universe gave us life as present and at the same time it made us responsible to create our

life into a unique one. It also gave us skills and means to make our life into the most beautiful possible. Our

gesture of gratitude for the universe is to celebrate our uniqueness and brighten our light the brightest one

possible, our colors and dance the most passionate and deepest ones possible. Then we can feel fully alive.

When we find a connection with ourselves, we find the connection with our creativity, from which we are born. We

get friends and guides on our path, and they bring joy to us. We get support for our way towards the fulfillment

of our heart’s desires. We see the wonders in us and around us maybe for the first time. We understand the real

purpose of life: love. When we embrace fully ourselves, we offer home for all parts of our being: mind, spirit and

body, all what there is in us. Then we are not fighting against ourselves or trying to repress some part of us.

We realize that we are walking on the path meant for us, when the things start to happen in the right order. First

small and then bigger miracles start manifesting in our life. There is a spark of magic in our life. We may for

instance think of our friend who we did not hear for many years, and then the very same day she calls us. The

misracles take place if we do not pass them indifferently but wonder them and thank the universe for creating our

wishful thoughts into the physical form. We have to sniff and investigate everything curiously like a poppy, and

continue even if we sometimes push our nose into a spiky bush. We know that the treasure will be found, when we

just keep our eyes and ears open and keep looking. We need to wonder and celebrate everything we see, and thank,

thank, thank for all the miracles.

Don’t we ever grow so big that we stop wondering the perfect beauty of raindrops, clear tone of birdsinging and

smell of cut grass? When we invite our wondering child gently back to our life, our life is funnier and colors of

our days brighter than in the role of a serious adult. Do you still remember what was the favorite game of your

childhood? Did it happen to be “Ten sticks on board” as mine? I still remember how it felt when I out of breath

and heart beating managed to hide in the middle of the bush so that nobody could find me.

One lifetime is not enough for discovering all the wonders inside and outside of us. In the movie “The Last

Samurai” the only samurai alive guessed that his time to leave this world was not far away. Still he serene,

because he had lived his life following his standards: he had served the Emperor, practised fencing, meditated in

the temple, taken care of his dead brother’s family. He held a pink flower of a chrerry tree in his hand, looked

at it ans said: “If I had all my life just been watching this flower, it would have been enough to make my life

complete, as complete as this flower.”

A single flower is complete and hundreds of flowers blossoming together are complete, and not the splendour of one

flower makes another flower any dimmer. We too are perfectly beautiful when have opened to fully blossom, and

nobody else’s splendour dims our splendor. The only way to know what our journey could be like is to embark on the

journey. It is better to talk less and do more, because already a single act os more powerful expression of our

intention than a thousand wise theories. Idleness and indifference are abandoning God’s generosity and undermining

our skills, and they will kill us alive before we have begun to live. That’s why every crisis, which we survive,

is better than stagnancy. Our crises strengthen us and help us understand, how rich and beautiful life is, and

what the waste is to worry about meaningless things.

We have given only limited time on the earth and we cannot know when our time is over. That’s why we need to live

each day fully, as if it was the only day left. We have to use all our senses. We have to quieten to listen to

whispering of our inner being. When we tune in to receive the message sfrom our angels, we can hear, how they

remind us that the purpose of our life is to love and be compassionate toeards others and ourselves.
When we have found our inner truth, we can always listen to its voice by praying or meditating. Our inner being

and God have both always known a truth about us, because there is no untruthfulness in our being. While praying we

can always relive our past the way it has been, we can be naked without selfdeception, rejection or lies. We can

again need, feel and think the things we did not dare to need, feel or think earlier. In that way we free

ourselves to live this moment.

We have to keep our energy body clean and avoid all poisonous things, which threaten our living space. We can do

it by consciously avoiding negative people; the ones who cultivate anxiety, shame, anger, depression, fear,

complaining, moaning, apathy, stress, worry or guilt. When we encounter with an angry person, we can breath

deeplt, send him friendly and loving thoughts and leave without a clash. Part of our selfcare is that we allow

into our energy field only those people who bring love, peace and higher spiritual energy into our life. When we

live in a quiet and clean environment and foster pace, we protect ourselves from attacks of the persons

representing the lower energy levels. Then we can concentrate on our growth. When we clean our environment we

search for higher spiritual energy and invite God into our life. In that way all the communication between others

and us is actually about relatioship between our God and us. And although we have rejected God and turned our

backs to Him and often only in distress remember His existence, He is ready to help us always when we receive His

help.

Our own energy is our connection with our guiding angel who speaks us through our intuition and sensations of our

body. We can talk to her and ask questions and requests. We can turn to her always when we need more clarity into

our life or always when we want company or creative inspiration. When we trust our ideas and let our emotions to

guide us in our life, we do not have to try to control everything with our intelligence. Our lifes gets clearer

and events, things and people just happen to us all in the right place and in right time. When we follow our own

truth, we are real, powerful and freely expressive, divine beings.
Life is not all about making money but it does make life more comfortable.
And opens doors to different possibilities of self-growth and adventure.
But one needs to find the way to cultivate his dreams
Comfortably. So that one lives following his heart’s desire
Which certainly is not to work like crazy and wake up too late in life and
Realize that life has gone without participating in it, without enjoying it fully, with all the senses, by seeing,

smelling, feeling, hearing, tasting, using one’s intuition.

I am happy that I am living in the time of internet which gives me possibility to work from home, to stay in touch

with positive energy of energetic people and provide my living by working just an hour or two a day. I am a

creative soul but I long to use my creativity in writing and dancing. I am grateful that other people have

invented powerful tools to benefit from the power of the internet. It reaches millions of people all around the

world. I do not need to travel to hear the teaching of others and spend my time in the airplane and crowded

traffic. I am able to stay at home and use my vacations to go to the beautiful destinations where I can get

pampered - I love spas!

What Does It Take To Be A Donald Trump Business

Posted on 25th June 2008 by jarcant in Business Note

Since you are a business oriented person, you might be thinking: “oh, great, here it comes another fad that sounds to good to be true and I don’t have time for this now.” Well, the fact is, like gravity you do not have to believe in Feng Shui for it to work. Whether you believe in the law of gravity or not it exists, and it affects everything you do. As Donald Trump said: “I don’t have to believe in Feng Shui, but I use it because it makes me money.”

It is no surprise that famous people like Trump, Oprah and Spielberg and the largest companies of the world such as Coca-Cola, Sony, Shell, Procter and Gamble, and others actively embrace Feng Shui. These companies and people practice Feng Shui principles as a way to add value to their service, to increase their profitability, create harmonious relations among employees, and to reduce employee turnover. Not only that, Feng Shui differentiates them from their competitors while multiplying their earnings and free time.

Feng Shui is not a fad, nor is it about religion, philosophy or superstition. Feng Shui is the art and science that unites time, space, people and the environment as one integral entity. Learning how to integrate Yin/Yang (opposite polarities) and the five elements: FIRE, EARTH, METAL, WATER, WOOD in your office decor will empower you. After rearranging your office furniture you will be able to relax your nervous system, inspire your mind and calm your emotions. This equates to higher productivity, improved health, better relations, and more prosperity and financial fortune.

5 WEALTH Producing Principles of Feng Shui

1. ENERGY Everything in your office is alive with energy. This includes: people, animals, plants, chairs, desks, art, etc. Every single object you have in your office talks to you with memories and feelings. To create an environment that supports and empowers your career goals and objectives, surround yourself with furniture, business equipment and decorative items that reflect wealth and success.

2. SIMPLICITY Less clutter means MORE opportunity and good fortune in your business and personal life. Here are some examples of what clutter in specific areas of your work environment actually means: Clutter located in the entrance of your office represents fear of relationships. If you have lots of clutter on your desk, it symbolizes frustration, fear of letting go or the need to control everything. In the corner or behind a door represents detachment from others. Clutter under your office furniture represents the importance of appearances to you. And, if you have clutter all over your office, it usually indicates frustration, anger, and sometimes even self-loathing.

3. BALANCE In Feng Shui there are 5 elements that govern a balanced environment: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood. An office environment with an over dominate element i.e. too much WOOD will deplete your health and finances over time. Conversely, the absence of an element such as FIRE can wreak havoc on your reputation and fortune. Harmony, peace and prosperity flourish in a balanced environment.

4. HEALTH Invisible EM waves from your monitor screen, cell phone, fluorescent lights and other office equipment deplete your energy and reduce your productivity. EMF’s (Electromagnetic Fields of Energy) are often overlooked and can cause grave danger to your brain, nerve, endocrine and reproductive systems and to every related organ and bone in your body. According to Dr. Yao, a research physicist, “The typical American receives electromagnetic radiation up to 200 million times more intense than his ancestors took in from the sun, the stars and other natural resources.” Thus, it is imperative that you protect yourself and your employees from office RADIATION, and create a healthy and safe work environment for business and people to prosper in. 5. POWER A classical school of Feng Shui called Eight Mansions has created more millionaires and billionaires than any other school of Feng Shui. This School capitalizes on specific directions for health, for negotiating, for selling, for communicating, for exercising and for sleeping. Honoring your personal power directions at work, will enable you to reduce stress and work less while increasing your WEALTH. Discover your power element at: www.chiquiz.com.

Putting On A New Pair Of Glasses Gaining A Fresh Perspective

Posted on 24th June 2008 by jarcant in Business Note

I don’t wear eye glasses, at least not yet. Even though I don’t wear them, I still understand how glasses affect your sight. I will occasionally put some on, just to see how strange it looks through them. In my case, what I see is all distorted and blurry, but if you talk to people about when they first begin to wear glasses they smile and talk about how clear things became for them once they put on those glasses.

Our eye sight changes gradually and our eyes are able to compensate for some time. We begin to accept things being blurry in the distance; thinking that is the natural way for things that are far away. We begin to accept those changes as natural and ok. Suddenly, something happens and we come to a realization we can’t see and that maybe we need glasses! After this epiphany, the glasses give us a brand new view instantly - providing us with a new and clearer picture of the world around us.

Our mental perspective is much like our eyesight. Without new glasses to help us see the world in new ways, we can gradually lose our focus, take things for granted or just assume we know how things are, even if they are blurry.

We don’t always think about it, but we always benefit from a fresh perspective. A fresh perspective can get us out of our comfort zone, kick start our thinking, put us on the road to improvement, and help us find better solutions to problems.
Here are five ways you (or your group or team) can gain the benefits of a new perspective without going to the optometrist.

1. Examine your assumptions. Assumptions get in our way all the time. A large part of the humor on television comes from assumptions that one party makes that are erogenous. Because we can “see” the assumptions, it makes us laugh. Strive to reduce the role assumptions play in your life. When looking at a new problem or challenge, make a list of all of the assumptions in the system; yours, the team’s, the organization’s, the industry’s, the Customer’s, whoever! Once we understand the assumptions we will understand other peoples’ behavior better and have a new perspective on the situation (and quite possibly find a great solution).

2. Read new things. If we only read the same things in the same magazines and newspapers we risk blurring our vision. Go to your bookstore, newsstand or library and pick up three magazines you have never heard of, or borrow the magazines of your neighbor’s 14 year old. Then read them cover to cover. Read them with curiosity, and keep your latest projects and challenges in mind as you read. Ask yourself as you read how you can apply these fresh perspectives to your situation and interests.

3. Visit new places and do new things. If you want a new perspective, go someplace different! A new restaurant, a new vacation spot, a different parking lot. Take the stairs up those five flights. Go ice fishing or inner-tubing behind a ski boat. New ideas will spawn from the new places and experiences.

4. Seek out differing opinions. Before finalizing your decisions, ask for divergent views. Ask a grandmother, someone in accounting, or your neighbor. Ask an eight year old or your best friend’s spouse. Ask them, expect to learn something and really listen. Asking for these opinions will give you new viewpoints, leading you to think, “Hmmm.. I never thought about it that way” which is the goal of trying on all of these mental glasses anyway.

5. Look at this site. One of my favorite ways to get people to think of old things in new ways is to show them a Peters Projection World Map. We have all grown up looking at the world through the lenses of the Mercator map. We know what the world, countries, and continents look like from this view. The Mercator map was developed for navigators, and so the straight lines match up with a compass. The problem is that this view distorts the relative size of things - because the world isn’t flat! With a spherical world and flat maps we depict both accurate size and shape on one map. I could talk more about this, but to help you “see” this new perspective, go to http://petersmap.com and read and see for yourself. It will be time well spent. (I dare you not to want to share this with someone else within five minutes of learning more about this map).

Even if your eyes are good you should have them checked every couple of years. Don’t wait nearly that long between uses of these glasses! Each of these approaches offers you a new view each time you use them, so use them often.

Mental Vs Physical Activity In Marketing

Posted on 24th June 2008 by jarcant in Business Note

This article addresses the issue about whether one can attract or magnetize circumstances without taken “action.” Its intention is to create better understanding in your minds about the use of mental and spiritual laws for success and the relationship between mental and physical action and work.

Let’s Get Mental

Yes, indeed, marketing your business is an activity. But that does not mean that the activity is necessarily “physical”.

Mental activity is thousands and thousands times more potent than physical activity. In fact, mental activity is a precursor to the right physical activity that gets results. However, physical activity is not necessarily required if you understand and apply mental activity. It is not magic. It is law. As I like to say, once you understand how the laws work, the “supernatural” becomes quite natural. You realize that the Universe is indeed magnetic and thought and feeling has more vibratory pull than any magnet you could imagine.

So I think it behooves anyone who wants to be successful to become aware of the relationship of mental and physical activity and know when either is indicated. There is the right mental activity, which can in and of itself attract without the need for physical activity AND there is the right mental activity that inspires a corresponding right physical action/activity that produces results. If the right mental activity is not included, then one will end up like the majority of the population - doing and doing, acting and acting but not succeeding.

You are using these laws all of the time whether you realize it or not. Only you are most likely not using them for the purpose and intention that you desire consciously. How many things have you attracted into your life that you feel you did nothing to deserve and asked, “Why did this happen?”

You didn’t “work” for those things. Yet they happened. Why? These results were the outcropping of the thoughts and impressions that were established in your mind subconsciously.

Now, the laws I am presenting to you do not indicate that you are to spend all of your time sitting around doing nothing. I won’t even address that because it is just plain ridiculous. I believe I am articulate enough in my writing to get my meaning across - if you will read carefully.

However, the absolute truth is that yes, we can attract circumstances to us without physical action. I have lived my life accomplishing that way. When you understand fully that thoughts are things and all physical things are in motion and vibrating at the molecular level, you will understand that it is indeed a magnetic Universe and we can vibrate to our good and it can vibrate to us. I know without knowledge in this area, it may appear fantastic, but that is why I attempt to speak in simple terms to create understanding and acceptance in your minds.

How Do I Know?

What is my experience? In 20 years I have never looked for a client (and my clients are the largest corporations in the world). I never advertised, never actively promoted. And yet I became renowned in my field and received all the exposure and publicity I could want - not as a result of anything I did physically, but as a result of the mental activity I learned to do. The physical part comes AFTER I receive the clients and the opportunities - that’s when I fulfill the creative vision of the client’s projects. I attract all of the ideas and elements necessary to do the perfect job. It’s easy. It flows. I don’t have to struggle or push or try or waste energy. The right answers truly “come out of the blue” for the most part. You can find some pretty amazing stories on my website with details of my results from using these laws over the years.

But the actual marketing of my business - always receptive, never active, except to walk through the doors that opened as a result of the mental activity.

You will see several cover newspaper stories on my website (those were only a few of several hundred articles worldwide). The articles began within six weeks of starting my business and continued for years. There were numerous television and radio segments also. You will have to believe me when I tell you that I had no publicist and did no work to get any of that publicity. Physical work, that is. The work was done on a mental level.

Cruise Control

So when you apply these laws, whether from a purely mental standpoint, or spiritual basis, you are guided to the actions that are necessary because the law has to produce what you have mentally accepted. You are no longer spinning your wheels - you are now on an automatic path to your results and to your success.

You establish, impregnate the thought and feeling of what you want in your deeper mind. You are intuitively guided to DO all of the things necessary for the result. You follow the leads. You do the outer work as you are guided to do. You also ATTRACT all of the things necessary for the result. The result may indeed come without physical outer action on your part or it may require action, but the action will be shown to you. You’re in the flow.

There is a sense of connection to a source of wisdom that knows all the answers and you can tap into that source anytime you want. You will know when to be still and do the mental work and wait and when to take outer action and do the work that results in your success.

The alternative? You work and work and struggle and struggle and you don’t get there. And wonder why you don’t succeed.

So…to pooh pooh the idea of attracting and magnetizing your good, even “out of the blue”, whether in your personal life or your business, just reveals a lack of awareness and a mind that is not open to the infinite possibilities that surround us. It indicates a mentality that is not up with the times or open and receptive to the great discoveries of our times that can further our success.

My point…you can close your mind and limit your ability to succeed. Or you can open your mind, expand your vision to include both the physical/active world and the mental/magnetic world and….be really successful!

Posted on 23rd June 2008 by jarcant in Business Note

Thanksgiving Day comes once a year in the U.S., but every day there are people in our lives who deserve our thanks. Sometimes a simple “Thank you” is appropriate. At other times, it is more thoughtful to be creative in expressing appreciation. It’s just good business.

Here are some suggestions for thanking people at work, at home, and in the community.

1. When you say “Thank you” tell the person specifically what it is you appreciate and why you appreciate it. “Thank you for going to the Post Office for me. It saved me a lot of time.”

2. Send an e-mail note. When I sent a thank you note to my staff in the Pentagon, the energy level shot up.

3. Send a hand-written thank you note. These are noteworthy because so few of us take time to write and mail them.

4. Place an unexpected phone call just to say “Thank you.” Connecting verbally adds warmth to your appreciation even if you reach voice mail.

5. Present a small certificate. Half-page certificates take up less space if displayed and are as meaningful as full sized certificates. They tend to draw attention because they are different.

6. Give a single flower from your garden, flowerpot, or florist, with a verbal “Thank you” or a note.

7. Put a candy bar or piece of fruit on the desk of the person to be thanked, with or without a note. (Be sure the person is not on vacation!)

8. Bake some cookies. This is especially effective when men bake and present a few cookies in thanksgiving.

9. Say something nice about the recipient of your thanks to someone else when the person you appreciate can overhear you. This is especially powerful in a business setting.

10. For special occasions, present a US flag that has flown over the Capitol. It is a unique, reasonably priced item which few people own. A certificate of authenticity is provided in honor of any special occasion you designate. Call your congressman’s office and ask for it. If you don’t have a local contact, call 202 224-3121 and ask for your congressman or congresswoman by name. When you reach that person’s office, ask to purchase a flag. They’ll know what to do!

What The Boston Red Sox Taught Me About Resiliency

Posted on 22nd June 2008 by jarcant in Business Note

Hello Valued reader,

You just have to ‘tap your caps’ to them.

No matter if you are a baseball fan or not; even if you love the team or can’t stand them… you have to marvel at how they did it.

My name is David Pynn; I’m the guy that helps people grow their businesses.

Amongst my coaching clients, conference calls and other obligations in October, I had to take some time and see them do it.

What you ask?

I had to see the self-proclaimed ‘idiots’ make baseball history.

For those reader’s not familiar with this story, let me fill you in.

The Boston Red Sox are a Major League Baseball team in North America. They have not won their Leagues Championship series (The World Series) since 1918.

Are you familiar with Babe Ruth?

He was once a player on the Boston Red Sox and was traded to their hated rivals… the New York Yankees. Some fans say a curse was born that day, as since that trade 86 years ago; the New York Yankees have won numerous titles and World Series victories. On the other hand, the Boston Red Sox have seen nothing but disaster.

But the faithful fans of Boston have held true to their team for decades. Some fans born and died without ever seeing their favourite team win a Championship… at least until this year.

The Major League Baseball playoffs are a month long event where a Champion is crowned. To win the World Series, a team must go through and defeat 3 different teams in a “best of” format.

Series One is a “best of 5″ format, and Series two and the final series are “best of 7″ formats.

The Red Sox won their first series against the Anaheim Angels. It went all 5 games, and was a great series. Unfortunately for Boston, the Yankees won their 1st series and advanced to play them in the 2nd Series.

Let me set this up for you…

The media was a frenzy, everything from Babe Ruth and the curse to years past with the Yankees winning over Boston was all people were talking about.

Some people say that this is the best rivalry in North American sport.

The best of 7 format went like this… Games 1 and 2, and games 6 and 7 were played in Yankee Stadium while Games 3 to 5 were played in Boston.

The Yankees went on to win the first 3 games of this series, and take a 3-0 lead in this best of 7 playoff. Game 2 made the record books as the final score was 19-8. It was the highest scoring game in Major League History.

The verdict was is… no team in Major League Baseball history has ever come back from a 3-0 series lead to win a playoff series. The Boston Red Sox were done. Another year of disappointment for the Boston faithful, and yet another year where they lost to the Yankees.

Most teams of men and women would have called it a season. Being down 3-0 in a best of 7 series brings out many emotions: frustration, disappointment and even a little anxiety.

But this team taught me about resiliency remember?

How do you stare history in the face, and re-write it?
Simple… you take it one game at a time.

To make a long story short, the Boston Red Sox won the next 3 games to tie the series and force a final game 7, where they beat the Yankees 8-3 in Yankee Stadium.

These self-proclaimed ‘idiots’ did it. They went on to win the last Championship Series against the St. Louis Cardinals. It only took them 4 games, and they made the best team in baseball look foolish.

So how did this team re-write history? By looking at it as a problem, and working to solve it.
Their problem was everything from a curse to 86 years of failure to the weight of a city on their shoulders.

How do you concur a problem… a problem that you may see no way out from and the chips are stacked against you?

You can break any problem down into 4 simple steps… no matter how big or small the challenge may be.

I warn you - these 4 steps work every time!

1. Intention - You have to want to change something before you can change it.

2. Willingness - Do the things you need to do change an unwanted habit or trend.

3. Commitment - Set a rock-solid contract with yourself not to fail no matter what.

4. Observation - Take a few minutes each day and observe how the process is going.

If you are not happy with the result after a period of time, then change your commitment and willingness. Intend on working hard to element the situation. Continue to observe your actions to element any habits that may let you fall back into the old routine.

Believe me, it won’t be easy. If it were easy, then anyone could do it.

Whether it’s quitting smoking, loosing a few pounds, getting out of debt, building a business or winning a Major Baseball League Championship; these 4 steps can help you focus and concur the issue.

Feel free to send over an email on what your big problem is that you may want guidance and help in overcoming… don’t worry - I won’t tell a soul!

We Are All Consultants

Posted on 22nd June 2008 by jarcant in Business Note

In our business lives we wear many hats. We often think of our job title as the way to describe our work. In fact, in any social situation, the question, “So what do you do?” will come up early in any conversation with a new person. How do we respond to this question? Invariably, we respond with our job title and the name of our organization. “I’m the Finance Manager at ABC Corp. Sometimes the conversation progresses beyond that, but often, that is all we have to say to describe our work.

And that is often how we think about it as well. Finance Manager. Chef. Staff Pharmacist. Marketing Director. Salesperson. Clerk. Janitor. Principal. Supervisor. Welder. Seldom though is any job as simple as a job title might suggest. We play a variety of roles, and do a variety of things within the scope of that job - whatever that job is.

Some people will answer that “So what do you do?” question with, “I’m a consultant.” I remember when my grandmother asked me about my new job at Chevron, and I answered with “I’m a training consultant.” Grandma wasn’t satisfied with that answer, so she probed further, “but what do you do?” she asked.

After a few minutes of discussion and explanation, she said, “Oh, you teach adults!” That was, in part what I did then, and happily, nearly twelve years later that is still what I do. I am a trainer, speaker, leader, writer and more. But most of all, I am a consultant. It may seem logical that I am a consultant, but you might not realize that it is very likely that in at least part of your work, or in other areas of your life, you are too.

Consulting is a big word - not in letters or syllables - but in scope. Consultants can play many valid roles, and therefore many roles that people play at work can be looked at as consulting.

Some of the Roles

Technical expert
Mentor
Coach
Lecturer
Trainer
Facilitator
Advisor
Subject Matter expert

…are all roles that consultants can hold. Any role where you have (or want to have) influence, but don’t necessarily have authority, is a consulting role. If you have an expertise that your organization needs, you have an opportunity to leverage that expertise to greater value by thinking of yourself as a consultant.

Why it Matters

Why does it make sense for many of us to think of ourselves as consultants, and not just by our job title? There are several reasons, and they all relate to your viewpoint, your contribution and your future.

If you see yourself as “just a ” you might grow bored with your work, or undervalue what you bring to it. So if you re-think of your work (or part of your work) as being a consultant it might re-invigorate you, stretch you and help you enjoy your work life more.

When people think of themselves as people trying to find ways to use their expertise to reach organizational goals, it helps them think of their role differently, again, more like that of a consultant. Consultants are constantly looking for ways to improve a situation - bringing their experience and expertise to bear on any situation.

So what is the bottom line? Seeing yourself in this way allows you to grow personally and professionally. And, not coincidentally, that growth will make you vastly more valuable to your organization, which is also a very good outcome!

What’s Next?

Once you see yourself with a broader role, or begin to think about some of the roles you play in new ways, you have more means to think about your own professional development. Think about it this way - if you only think of yourself by your job title, you may be limiting your view of your own development. When you expand your view of the role you can play - of using your expertise to impact the organization, you suddenly will see new skills that you would like to hone.

Effective consultants use a wide variety of interpersonal skills expertly. Things like listening, conflict resolution, both written and oral communication skills, and more are critical. Beyond that there are intrapersonal skills that have high value when we play a role of a consultant. When we become clearer on our own motives, are flexible and willing to change (and understand change processes), and have greater self knowledge we will be more successful.

On top of these things there are models and processes that we can learn to play of a variety of these consulting roles more effectively.

I challenge you to think of your work and role in new ways. This rethinking may lead you to realize that MOST of the work that you do is some form of consulting, or you may find that you only play those roles someplace outside of work (in the community, as a volunteer, or somewhere else), or you may find yourself somewhere in between those two extremes.

If thinking about this leads you to think of your work in new ways, congratulations! You have taken another step on the road to unleashing your potential.

Taking Charge Of Your Files

Posted on 21st June 2008 by jarcant in Business Note

One of the first steps is to box up last years files. However, before you do that be sure to go through your files and clean them out. The files that can take up a lot of space during the year, can be easily tossed. For example, your correspondence file, newsletter files, chron files. You can also combine your completed client files for the year, both seller and tenant buyers.

After you have gone through the paper file cabinet, be sure to do the same with your computer files. Years ago when computer memory was at a premium, people did not keep all the extraneous garbage on their computers, like people do today. Just like your paper files, move the files to disks or your zip drive if you need to, or just delete them. You don’t need every letter you sent, every e-mail, or all the newsletters you’ve been meaning to read. Also go through your favorites and clean them out.

Treat your computer like memory was at a premium and you won’t hold on to items you will never use. Unfortunately today everything is in gigabytes rather than megabytes.

After you have cleaned out the paper files and computer files, next step is to make up your files for this year.

Avery Label Pro is excellent for doing up file labels. In fact all type of labels. It allows you to run another set of general files out very quickly. Remember time management and organization are keys to not wasting your time. I’m sure that many of you are thinking boxing up and making up of files is a waste of time. However, when a client calls and you can’t find something they want to know, it will become of paramount importance. So, keep your files organized, both paper and computer.

Once you have your files set for the new year, the next thing is to clean out the calendar or day planner you use. Change the pages. Tip, you can run day planner pages out of Outlook and then whole punch. A lot cheaper than buying the pages. This is also a great option for those of you without a day planner. Buy a small binder and make your own. Again, a lot less expensive option. Once your calendar is set up, be sure to pencil in your daily, weekly, and monthly goals, in addition to any standing appointments you have for the year. Last but not least, rubber band the pages from last year together and add it to your file box. For those of you using chron files be sure to place those in a separate file box, so you can very quickly put your hands on any of last year’s correspondence.

Next is to set up your tickler file for the year. File any extraneous papers you keep in your tickler file (e.g. calendar pages, meeting agendas, notes, etc.) Be sure all your month files are in order. Go through the January sections and place them in the appropriate date, so you will be ready for the first month of year’s appointments.

Next is to deal with any outstanding mail from the last year. Answer it, read it, file it or toss it. This will ensure your mail folders are in order for the upcoming year.

For those of you doing lease purchasing, you will also want to check all your databases (prospects, sellers, tenant buyers, consulting jobs, pending properties, etc.) and diligently go through them to weed out those not producing results. You will also want to update your FSBO sites, and start making new calling lists for the new year.

Last but not least is to add up your expenses for the year. If you are using the monthly envelope method, total those for the year. If you are using Quickbooks or another type of accounting/bookkeeping program, run your numbers for the year (e.g. for expenses - supplies, telephone, fax, computer, office, utilities, etc.; for profits - consultations, assignment fees, notes, cash flow profits, etc. This will give you an idea of what you made after expenses. Then develop goals to do even better for the new year.

Setting Up Your Filing System

Posted on 21st June 2008 by jarcant in Business Note

Your filing system is very important. To be able to locate items quickly is of paramount importance. The following system will work for any kind of business. However, please note that many of the files discussed are specific to lease purchasing.

You should have a general drawer, which contains banking information, supply information, general forms, business license, answering machine message, expense envelope. Anything of a general nature.

Your Real Estate files should have a general section for correspondence(sent and received), faxes sent, e-mails sent, consultation correspondence, forms letters, signs(for rent), general advertising, prospects, consultation prospects.

You should have a file drawer that contains all your contracts and forms.

You should have a file drawer for marketing materials. Flyers, brochures, letterhead, cards, newsletter.

You should have a file drawer for clients. A file for each client. For Lease Purchase a separate file for sellers, this should also contain tenant/buyers and be separated into open and closed. Open contains property you are currently working on. Closed are those properties you have found tenant/buyers for and have completed the deal.

If you take credit cards, a file drawer for monthly transactions.

You should also have a file drawer for any products you sell.

The files that should be handy and placed in your graduated tray are:
(Note: Some files are specific to Lease Purchase only)

1. Calls to Make

2. Database Entries - You can note on letter or fax or e-mail which database to enter it into or I prefer, to avoid any mistakes to make separate files.

a) Seller Prospects (from newspaper calling and FSBO site list)
b) Seller Prospects Web (e-mails done to sellers that have responded for more info.)
c) Consultations Sellers - I note on e-mail received or a phone call, if it is from web e-mail or other lists
D) Tenant/Buyer database

3. Calling Lists - A file that contains all your calling lists.

4. Pending applicants/credit checks - applications I am waiting for credit check info to be returned on

5. Letters To Do

6. To Do On Internet

You should also make up files for the forms we provide in the Lease Purchase section.

1. Tenant/Buyer Telephone Credit Form

2. Tenant/Buyer Preliminary Info Form

3. Lease Purchase Property Research Form (Note: Along with your telephone script, you should also have a sheet typed up with the advantages you want to discuss with the seller)

You should make up a fax file, so if someone requests a brochure, newsletter, products you offer, or a tenant/buyer wants you to fax the form, you can do so.

The fax file should contain:

Newsletter (if have one, single sided)

Products Offered (if you have any)

Tenant/Buyer Evaluation Form

Credit Card Authorization

Brochure (on white paper, single sided)

House flyer (flyers for any properties you control)

Your tickler file (accordion file with days 1-31, and manila folders with 12 months), should fit in your desk drawer or under it. You can put your To Do List folder in it at the end of the day for the next day if your space is limited.

Your filing system is an integral part of your business. Be sure your files are set up properly and you will be able to manage your business more efficiently and professionally. Which in the long run, will lead to a successful and profitable business for you.

Organizing Your Electronic Files

Posted on 20th June 2008 by jarcant in Business Note

Have you ever sat in front of your computer looking for a document - knowing it was there - the question is: “Where?” The answer gets amazingly complicated if the document is an attachment someone sent to you from someone else’s e-mail account!

In addition to organizing the additional paper that results from our new technology, we now also have to organize the technology itself. Did you know that 80-95% of the information we work with daily is generated by email and electronic files?

How Computer Filing Works

Your computer is basically an electronic filing cabinet. This is true regardless of what kind of operating system your computer uses, what kind of graphical interface it uses to show you how things are organized, what tools are available to you, and what kind of words or icons it uses to identify and describe the features of those tools. Whether you use a Windows based program or a Macintosh, the principles of organizing the programs and the information are basically the same.

The problem with computers is that the information isn’t organized according to how we work and think. It is organized by format or application source (email, documents, web pages, contacts, etc.). Yet we comprehend by subject, person, company, project, and some other criteria appropriate to the work we do.

What many computer users overlook is that with today’s technology we all have the advantages of the 255-character file name, which can be a combination of key words and phrases! This feature, plus the search capability of the computer, gives you access to a powerful organizing tool which can save you hours of time looking for or recreating information which already exists!

“Today’s Mail is Tomorrow’s File” One of my overriding Paper Tiger principles is “Today’s mail is tomorrow’s pile.” How do you apply this to your computer? If you have a computer full of unidentifiable files, and you waste more time than you can afford looking for what you need, the easiest way to get yourself out of the quagmire is to start over!

What does that mean? Ignore all your old files! Design your new computer-filing system, using the principles I am going to describe. Then re-file your old files into the new system as you need them or, back them up on some other media, or delete them.

How do you design an effective computer-filing system? First, remember one of the most important (and neglected) principles of organizing computer files: A computer’s value is that it allows you to use a file again - but only if you can find it again! Sometimes you may simply want to print another copy. Other times, you may want to update or change the document in some way, or excerpt parts of it to create a new document. In any event, your key to success in finding the information you need is keywords!

Setting Up Your Computer-Filing System

The first step to success in easy file retrieval is to point all files into one directory. Windows created “My Documents” for that purpose - but you may create another directory. In addition to making it significantly easier to retrieve information you need, this technique provides another major benefit. It’s much simpler to back up your data for archives or for transfer to other locations.

So here’s my system — or it was - until I discovered another great productivity tool (see sidebar): I use My Documents. Then I create a subdirectory for each of the computer programs I use, such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Paper Tiger, Access, QuickBooks, etc.

If you don’t keep many electronic files, you can ignore the option of creating subdirectories and keep all your files in one directory. But if you have lots of files, that would be like tossing all your tools in your garage and then spending hours looking for a screwdriver!

In addition, you can create additional subdirectories for projects, clients, or categories of work. But be careful - this can get you in trouble. For example, if I create a subdirectory for Clients, and a subdirectory for Articles, and then write an article for a client, where do I file it? The fewer directories, the fewer places to look - and you’ll soon see how keywords will allow you to find any file in your computer in a few seconds!

Note: If you’re working on a networked computer, you may have a choice of multiple drives. Your organization may already have made this decision for you of which drive to use. For example, all files of mutual business interest or used by a single division of the business may be filed on one drive, while employees’ private work files may be filed on another.

In any event, don’t make your strategy too complicated. It would, for example, probably be more confusing than helpful to send separate projects to separate drives, when there’s space for all of them on the same drive, especially if they’re all related to the same role or client in your work life.

The Power of Keywords In the early days of computers and DOS, files had to be named with eight letters and a 3-character extension. As a result, we got into the habit of creating shorthand for naming documents. The problem (as with paper files) is that often we don’t think of the same name every time we look for the document. Fortunately, we don’t have that limitation anymore! The good news is that you now have up to 255 characters to name a file - and the name can be a combination of words and phrases.

For example, when I am writing this article, I save it in My Documents/Word. I name it: Organizing Your Computer Files, article, 2003, website, DJ Watson, editor. Any of those words could be helpful to me when I, or someone else, try to find the file years from now.

In other words, to determine how to name a file, use the same technique as the one for paper files: Ask yourself, “If I want this file again, what word will I think of first?” Enter that word first, and then any other word or phrase that might help you retrieve that file. You can separate the identifying words with commas or semicolons. (Some punctuation marks and symbols are not allowed.)

Finding Your Electronic File - in 5 Seconds or Less!

So let’s say I’m out of town and my assistant needs to find this article. She can go to the Start Menu, Search, My Documents and type in any of the words I used to describe the article - voila! It’s there - in seconds!

My favorite electronic coup: An editor of a banking publication calls to say they would like an article for their newsletter (today, of course!). I do a search on “Article” and instantly I have a list of every article in my computer. I scan the list quickly and see an article I wrote for a real estate newsletter, which I can easily adapt - in a fraction of the time if would take me to write a new article!

Information is power - if you can find it when you need it! (And you’ll really feel smug when others can find it too!)
